Take the hot dish out and let it chill a bit before you serve it up.

Pop the whole thing in the oven for 25–30 minutes. Keep an eye on it—the tater tots should get crispy and nicely browned.

Toss those frozen tater tots all over the cheesy layer. Make sure you cover it all in a single layer.

Cover the entire beef mix with shredded cheese so it melts everywhere.

Take your beef mix and spread it out in a baking dish (33 x 23 cm works great). Keep it even.

Pour the mushroom soup and sour cream into your meat-onion mix. Stir until it's all mixed, then add salt and pepper.

On medium heat in a big pan, cook up the beef and onions until the onions get soft and the beef isn't pink anymore. Drain any extra fat you see.

Preheat your oven to 190°C (top and bottom heat).
