Currywurst with Sauce (Print)

Sausage paired with zesty curry sauce, awesome with fries or a crunchy roll for a hearty bite.

# Ingredients:

→ Sausage

01 - 1 tablespoon butter or any vegetable oil
02 - 4 bratwursts

→ Curry ketchup sauce

03 - 60 ml water
04 - 2 tablespoons tomato paste
05 - 1 clove garlic, chopped finely
06 - A small onion, diced small (use half if it's big)
07 - Salt and black pepper as much as you like
08 - 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
09 - 120 ml ketchup
10 - 2 teaspoons curry powder plus extra for the top
11 - 1 teaspoon smoked or regular mild paprika
12 - 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

→ Sides (optional)

13 - Crispy bread roll or fries

# Steps:

01 - Throw a pinch more curry powder on top. Plate it up with fries or fresh bread if you want.
02 - Warm the sausage pieces in the sauce or pile them on a plate and pour that tasty warm sauce right over.
03 - Stir in ketchup and tomato paste. Toss in curry and paprika powder, sugar, vinegar, and water. Let it bubble gently for 10 to 15 minutes so it thickens up a bit. Season with salt and pepper when it's done.
04 - Use the same pan to gently fry the onion and garlic for about 3 or 4 minutes until they're soft.
05 - Heat oil over medium and fry the bratwursts until they're all golden brown and cooked through, about 8 to 10 minutes. Cut them up into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

# Notes:

01 - You can swap in chicken sausage or knackwurst if you'd rather. Dial up the kick with chili flakes or your favorite spicy sauce. For a sweeter or fruitier taste, drizzle in some honey or splash in orange juice. Make the sauce ahead if you want—flavors will get even deeper after a night in the fridge. If it gets too thick when reheating, just thin it out with a splash of broth.
