Set your oven to 350°F. Pour the melted butter evenly across the bottom of a 9x13 pan.

In a big bowl, combine sugar, vanilla, and milk, stirring well. Toss in the flour, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder. Stir until it’s just blended together.

Dollop the batter carefully over the butter—don’t stir it in. Sprinkle brown sugar on top. Slowly pour the hot water over everything without mixing.

Put it in the oven for around 30-35 minutes, until it turns golden and mostly solid.

Combine the topping’s sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle it over the warm cobbler. Let it cool for a little bit before eating.
