Grab the rye bread slices and coat one side of each with butter. Put them aside for now.

Combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, and onion powder in a bowl, then mix well. Shape into three patties, sizing them to fit your bread shape.

Warm a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 2-3 minutes each side. Lower the heat and let them cook another 5 minutes, making sure they hit 160°F (71°C) inside.

In a small bowl, mix together mayo, ketchup, bacon bits, sweet relish, and sugar, stirring until smooth.

Heat another skillet over medium-low. Place bread butter-side down in the pan, add two slices of cheddar, a cooked patty, and two slices of Provolone. Spread the sauce on the plain side of another bread slice and press it sauce-side down on top.

Cook each sandwich for 2-3 minutes on both sides so the cheese melts and the bread gets crispy. Repeat the process for the other sandwiches.
